Different regulators, the same requirement

Every sector we work in has its own regulator, its own vocabulary and its own idea of a bad day. Underneath, the IT problems look remarkably similar.

  • Downtime has a cost somebody can name. A trading floor, a checkout, a production line or a ward. When it stops, the number is known and it is not small.
  • The evidence has to hold up under audit. Who had access, what changed, when it was patched and who approved it, produced on request rather than reconstructed afterwards.
  • Change control is not optional. Nothing moves without a plan, a window and a way back, because the alternative is a reportable event.
  • Data has to be handled like it matters. Personal, financial and clinical data with classification, retention and access control that a regulator would recognise.
  • Procurement gets scrutinised. Frameworks, supplier due diligence and certifications that are checked, not taken on trust.
  • Budgets are watched. Whether it is a grant, a public purse or a board, the spend has to be justified line by line and the value has to be visible.
Where our experience genuinely sits

Sectors we work in

Enterprise IT in environments where getting it wrong is expensive, delivered through our managed IT services and the AI Transformation Hub.

Nine sectors we work in. Open any of them for what that looks like in practice.

  • Financial servicesRegulated, audited, always onWe run estates where downtime is a reportable event and change control is not optional. ISO 27001 certified, with evidence your auditors can use.
  • RetailUptime through every peakEstates that have to absorb Black Friday and a January sale without a wobble, across head office, distribution and the shop floor.
  • InsuranceData handled like it mattersPersonal and claims data with proper classification, retention and access control, and AI use cases that never take that data somewhere it should not go.
  • ManufacturingIT that keeps the line movingTwenty four hour production estates where a maintenance window is measured in minutes and an outage is measured in units not made.
  • CharityDoing more with restricted budgetsFunder reporting, volunteer and hybrid working, and grant funded projects that have to land on time, run lean and stand up to scrutiny.
  • Public sectorNHS, transport and central governmentProcurement that has to stand up to scrutiny, and delivery that has to work for people who did not choose the system they use. A Government Commercial Agency (GCA) supplier.
  • LegalConfidentiality, deadlines and disclosureClient confidentiality, matter deadlines and disclosure obligations, with practice management and document systems that have to be available when a court date is not moving. AI brought in where it is governed, and nowhere near privileged material without controls. See AI for law firms →
  • Real estateSites, systems and people on the moveHead office, branch and site teams working across devices and locations, with property, CRM and finance systems that have to talk to each other and client data that has to be handled properly.
  • Software developmentEnvironments, access and uptimeBuild pipelines, environments and source control that have to stay available and access controlled, with the security baselines your own customers ask about in their due diligence.
How we work in a regulated environment

Evidence first, then everything else

The way we run an estate in a regulated sector is the way we run every estate. It is just that in these sectors, somebody checks.

  • 01

    Start from the evidence

Before anything changes we establish what is there, who has access to it and what the regulator expects to see. That baseline becomes the audit trail from day one.
  • 02

Put change control in front of everything

A plan, a window and a way back for every change, with the approvals recorded. Nothing gets done on a Friday afternoon because somebody was passing.
  • 03

    Run it as one service

Support, security, cloud, Microsoft 365 and backup from the same named engineers, so nothing falls between two suppliers when the auditor asks who owns it.
  • 04

    Report in the regulator’s language

Access, patching, incidents and recovery tests, reported in a form you can hand over rather than translate.
  • 05

Bring AI in only where it is governed

Automation and intelligence where they genuinely help, built on data that is classified and access that is controlled. Human led, AI augmented.
