Most tenants are over licensed and under secured
Microsoft 365 tends to get bought once, set up in a hurry and never looked at again. The bill goes up every year and the security settings stay wherever the first person left them.
- You are paying for seats nobody uses. Leavers still licensed, duplicated tooling, and premium plans assigned to people who only ever needed the basic one.
- Security is on default settings. Multi factor authentication half rolled out, conditional access never configured, and nobody sure what an auditor would find.
- SharePoint became another shared drive. Files everywhere, permissions nobody can explain, and Teams used as a chat window bolted onto email.
- There is no backup. Microsoft protects the platform, not your data. A deleted mailbox or a ransomware event is still your problem to recover from.
- The migration never quite finished. An old mail system still running somewhere, mixed identities, and a rollback plan nobody wrote down.
