Cloud migration for a frontline housing charity

A respected UK housing charity supporting people at risk of homelessness needed IT that worked as well in community hubs and on the move as it did in the office.

We moved it to Microsoft Azure, brought every staff device under central management and replaced the legacy file server with SharePoint, with security and compliance built in throughout.

The challenge

Vital services, on IT that needed to evolve

The charity was already delivering vital services across the country, with teams working in offices, community hubs and remotely. Its IT supported day to day operations, but it recognised the need to evolve so it could keep providing high quality support in a more flexible, secure and connected way.

It wanted devices under central management, better access to documents for mobile and remote teams, less reliance on ageing infrastructure, collaboration on a shared cloud platform and stronger data protection, given the sensitive nature of its work. And it needed the move made smoothly and securely, with its own team equipped to run the new environment afterwards.

Our approach

A complete shift to Microsoft Azure

A secure, flexible IT environment built around the charity’s needs. The work focused on four areas.

  • 01

    Modern device management

Remote management for laptops and mobile devices, so staff can work securely from any location.
  • 02

    Cloud migration

Critical systems and applications moved to Microsoft Azure, ending the reliance on ageing servers. More reliable, easier to maintain and ready to scale with demand.
  • 03

    Better collaboration

A new SharePoint platform replaced the legacy file server, so teams can share documents, stay organised and work together from different locations.
  • 04

    Security and compliance

Built-in protections including secure access controls, data loss prevention and automated backups, reducing risk and supporting data protection responsibilities.
The results

Practical improvements to how the charity works

Clear documentation and training ran throughout, so the internal team could manage and support the new environment with confidence.

  • Every device managed through Intune. Remote setup, secure policy enforcement and simpler updates across Windows, iOS and Android.
  • Servers moved to Azure. File storage, domain controllers and legacy apps migrated, reducing infrastructure costs and ending the reliance on ageing hardware.
  • Over 2TB into SharePoint Online. Legacy file server data migrated with clean metadata, structured permissions and retention policies to meet compliance needs.
  • Security standardised. Conditional access, endpoint protection, and backup and recovery, all implemented to Microsoft best practice.
  • A team in control. The internal IT team has full visibility and control of the new cloud environment.
  • Ready to scale. Not just modernised systems: the tools to work more flexibly, collaborate securely and scale with confidence.
